The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of talented individuals. The single blends a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
