The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
