The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach another team on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
