The co-creator of Call of Duty, the mind behind the immensely successful franchise Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in the state of California aged 55.

His passing was confirmed by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the video game company which he helped establish.

The influential game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on this past Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, his family, and all those touched by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
