Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
