Former British Serviceman Charged of Murdering Kenya Female Shows Up in Courtroom

A man has shown up before a judge as deportation processes started in the investigation of the victim Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman who was murdered near a British forces camp in the year 2012.

Purkiss, 38 years old, who is a native of Greater Manchester region, appeared before the Westminster court on the last Friday, and stated to the court he intended to contest the extradition request. Sources suggest that he was detained on the evening of Thursday.

A detention order for the suspect was released by a court in Nairobi in September. The state attorneys informed the Kenyan judiciary that the accused had been accused of a one count, of killing, and that the Kenyan authorities would seek his extradition to stand trial.

The defendant was once employed as a medic with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the army unit for the English northwest, including on tours of Afghanistan.

The victim, 21, a hairdresser who had a infant daughter, went missing after a night on the town, and her body was discovered two months later in the area of the accommodation where she had previously spotted.

Nobody had earlier been taken into custody or accused in association with her passing. His detention was the result of a new police inquiry, which followed a report in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the newspaper contacted several serving and ex-military personnel in the regiment.

The investigation has been spearheaded by Kenyan detectives, which, under a bilateral security treaty, holds legal authority in the matter.
