British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends the current season and plans to retain her coach into the 2026 season.
Raducanu reached the third round in three of the four major tournaments during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu will not compete in the last two tournaments this season due to the illness she has been battling over the past 10 days.
The 22-year-old had planned to participate in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will involve trainer Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering in 2026.
The tennis professional underwent blood pressure monitoring in her opening round with Ann Li in Wuhan and withdrew when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She again required a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
Raducanu was also moving with clear difficulty in the final set against Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has been a concern during parts of the season.
Such performances meant an encouraging season, in which she climbed into the world's top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points prior to falling to Pegula in the third stage in Beijing last month.
She secured 28 victories during 2025 and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.
Ranked first in Britain advanced to the quarters of the WTA 1000 event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed en route before losing in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
Her coach was Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The first plan with Rafael Nadal's former coach was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with a training session scheduled in the coming months.
She mentioned that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.
She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their initial event as a team in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig joined her in New York, where she made the third stage then falling to Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022.
