A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
